Images of Arctic Science (2020)

In April 2020, the EU, through the organization INTERACT, organized a photography contest to publish a photobook about the Arctic. In his words:

«The idea behind this book is to provide a visual impression of Arctic science in pictures. As scientists, we normally tell stories in words, figures and tables in scientific papers, in textbooks, at lectures and in popular science articles. However, many of us – if not all of us – have experienced the Arctic through our cameras; both for more technical, research related pictures and for pictures simply catching the beauty of our workplace and what surrounds it. For this book we have chosen 107 pictures to tell 107 different stories – every picture in the book is a story of its own – about Arctic science, Arctic landscapes, Arctic nature and the people living there.»

Out of the 107 images that make up the book, two of them are ultimately mine. A modest contribution to a book full of spectacular images, but one that I am especially happy with. If you click on the image below (one of my two published ones), you can download the PDF of the book. I hope you like it:

FOTCIENCIA14 (2017)

Each year, the Spanish National Research Council and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology they organize the photography contest FOTCIENCIA to popularize science through striking images and brief explanatory texts. Almost every year I participate by contributing one of my images, and in 2016 I was fortunate that one of my photographs was chosen to be part of the catalog that accompanied the 7 winning images.

The booklet includes the 49 images that the jury considered most interesting. The file PDF The booklet can be downloaded from their website. They wanted to make such a lightweight file that the images ended up with terrible quality. Which is a shame, really.

I am leaving you the photograph published below because the image in the booklet does not do it justice:
